A Career in Criminal Law

Our solicitors are mostly specialists in one field, such as criminal defence and extradition law. The nature of their work depends on their current clients and cases, and can vary from relatively minor matters to the most complex and serious of offences.

Duties include:

• Providing legal advice
• Preparing cases for trial and briefing barristers
• Representing clients in court
• Liaising with other professionals

Key skills and qualities we would look for in a solicitor wanting to join our team include:

• Excellent legal and procedural knowledge
• Attention to detail
• Communication skills
• Dedication to client care
• Advocacy and presentational skills
• Case and time management

It is a responsible and challenging role which necessitates integrity, confidentiality and a non-prejudicial mindset.

Paralegal Jobs

Paralegals are now an important part of the legal system, assisting in the provision of affordable legal assistance to the public. In particular, they help ensure equitable access to legal aid. As clients increasingly expect competitive rates for legal services, the demand for good paralegals remains high.

At Dalton Holmes Gray all our paralegals work under an experienced solicitor’s direct supervision. Acting as a legal administrative assistant, they routinely draft documents, liaise with clients and other legal professionals, conduct interviews and prepare case files. The work performed varies depending on the department and the supervising solicitor.
